Project objetives
Project is focused on landfill biogas energy recovery in low biogas production landfills where application of combined heat and power engines is not viable. Landfill biogas is a real renewable energy, but it is necessary to eliminate compounds that are corrosive to equipment. Specific objectives of the MICROPHILOX project are:
- Production of electricity and heat from landfill biogas using microturbines. Study of operational parameters without biogas upgrading.
- Design, manufacturing, implementation and control of two pilot plants for biological reduction of hydrogen sulphide and siloxanes present in landfill biogas.
- Development and definition of an effective method to capture and analyse siloxanes present in landfill biogas as a control system for the designed biofilter.
- Integration of the microturbine with the biological combined system for biogas cleaning. Study of operational parameters.
- Joined evaluation (technical, economical and environmental viability) of the biological upgrading and the microturbine energy recovery process and comparison with the viability of the microturbine working without biogas cleaning.
- Dissemination of results.
